The Sacramento Youth Band currently operatesa jazz ensemble which rehearses year-round on Sundays. The band studies a variety of jazz styles including Bebop, Big-Band Swing, Latin Jazz, Funk, Blues, and Traditional Jazz. The band is intended for music students aged 21 and younger. River City Swingers (advanced jazz band) The River City Swingers jazz band is an advanced ensemble. This band plays a wide variety of challenging jazz music while preparing for performances around the Sacramento area (jazz festivals, jazz venues, fairs, private events). Seating is assigned based on a quarterly audition (additional auditions may be scheduled if there is an opening in one of the sections). This band is mostly comprised of High School and College students. This band rehearses on Sunday evenings from 5:00pm to 6:30pm at St. Luke's Church in South Sacramento. Click Here for a map. How to Join If you would like to find out more information or would like to join, please complete the online form on the "Join SYB" page and someone will contact you. To schedule an audition, please fill out the form on the "Jazz Band Audition" page. If you would like to observe a rehearsal or sit in with the band before doing an audition please indicate that on the form and we will arrange a time for you to do so. The band rehearses on Sundays at St. Luke's Church at Center Parkway and Tangerine from 5:00 to 6:30. Please check our Calendar Page for schedule changes before visiting one of our rehearsals. |
